- School Tours

- The busiest time of the year for
school tours is in the spring. If you would like to book a school tour,
we suggest you get your request in early as the dates in May do fill up
quickly. The last few weeks of April are also a very busy time. The
Fall is usually not as busy as the spring and it is a nice time to
visit the Museum. You might want to consider booking your next tour in
the Fall of the year. Tours of the main Museum can also be booked
during the winter. It is possible to tour the Village in the winter,
but it can be very cold.
- Several types of tours can be
arranged. Listed below are some of the more popular tours by grade
level. However, we can arrange most any type of tour your group would
desire. We can also do Theme tours such as immigration, Indians, types
of machinery, what tool is this etc. There is a Museum Store where
students can buy a variety of things such as books, T-shirts, rabbit
furs, and traditional candies of the time. Time should be scheduled at
the end of the tour or perhaps during the noon hour for student
shopping. You might like to look at the Discover History
Page to see some of the
activities conducted by the Albert Lea Area Schools Fifth Grade
classes. If you would like to work out something similar, we would be
very happy to work with you. If you would prefer something special,
please contact us by phone and we will work with you to make the
necessary arrangements..
- Group Presentations

- Group presentations can be
arranged anytime of the year. Pictured above are Paul and Kay Larson,
retired teachers, depicting Ma and Pa Ingalls. Paul and Kay have
designed a presentation for elementary age students involving artifacts
such as the spyder and the coffee grinder etc. (pictured above) from
the time of Laura Ingalls. They have given this presentation to
students from grade 3 to grade 6. It has been very well received. We
also have presentations regarding immigration which are presented by
Bev Jackson. Usually this presentation has been for 4th grade students.
The FCHM would be more than happy to work with you to design special
presentations that will enhrich your classes. If you have any special
needs or presentations you would like to use in your classroom, please
contact the FCHM and we will work with you to develop a special group
presentation. Our Education Committee is comprised mostly of retired
educators with many years of experience from all grade levels. Working
together, we are sure we can develop a program very appropriate for
your students. We are currently in the process of developing large
totes with artifacts and scripted presentations which can be obtained
from the FCHM for your personal use in your classroom. Please let us
know if we can be of service to you.

Lea and Freeborn County. You can check the Freeborn County Fair site
for a list of entertainers for this years fair.
- We do have an area where we can
arrange for your group to have a catered meal while you are at the
Museum. This is usually arranged with a local restaurant or deli. There
is a modest cost for the meal.

also been host to several Elderhostels which are arranged in
conjunction with Riverland Community College. Elderhostels usually are
