School Tours
The busiest time of the year for school tours is in the spring. If you would like to book a school tour, we suggest you get your request in early as the dates in May do fill up quickly. The last few weeks of April are also a very busy time. The Fall is usually not as busy as the spring and it is a nice time to visit the Museum. You might want to consider booking your next tour in the Fall of the year. Tours of the main Museum can also be booked during the winter. It is possible to tour the Village in the winter, but it can be very cold.
Several types of tours can be arranged. Listed below are some of the more popular tours by grade level. However, we can arrange most any type of tour your group would desire. We can also do Theme tours such as immigration, Indians, types of machinery, what tool is this etc. There is a Museum Store where students can buy a variety of things such as books, T-shirts, rabbit furs, and traditional candies of the time. Time should be scheduled at the end of the tour or perhaps during the noon hour for student shopping. You might like to look at the Discover History Page to see some of the activities conducted by the Albert Lea Area Schools Fifth Grade classes. If you would like to work out something similar, we would be very happy to work with you. If you would prefer something special, please contact us by phone and we will work with you to make the necessary arrangements.

Group Presentations

Group presentations can be arranged anytime of the year. Pictured above are Paul and Kay Larson, retired teachers, depicting Ma and Pa Ingalls. Paul and Kay have designed a presentation for elementary age students involving artifacts such as the spyder and the coffee grinder etc. (pictured above) from the time of Laura Ingalls. They have given this presentation to students from grade 3 to grade 6. It has been very well received. We also have presentations regarding immigration which are presented by Pat Mulso. Usually this presentation has been for 4th grade students. The FCHM would be more than happy to work with you to design special presentations that will enhrich your classes. If you have any special needs or presentations you would like to use in your classroom, please contact the FCHM and we will work with you to develop a special group presentation. Our Education Committee is comprised mostly of retired educators with many years of experience from all grade levels. Working together, we are sure we can develop a program very appropriate for your students. We are currently in the process of developing large totes with artifacts and scripted presentations which can be obtained from the FCHM for your personal use in your classroom. Please let us know if we can be of service to you.

We are looking forward to your visit to our facility and hope the students will find the tour educational and fun! Park near the north gate in front of the "Big Oak School" when you come for your tour.  Please have your students divided into groups of 10 before getting off the bus! THANK YOU!

During the spring, we have a Tour Calendar posted on our web site. To see if your date is still available, click the Tour Calendar link.

If you would like to book a date for your school group, you can EMAIL us or call us at 507-373-8003
Group Tours
Group tours and Elderhostels, can be booked at any time. You may want to avoid April and May as these months do fill up with school tours. Admission to the Museum is $5.00 per adult. There are several special events during the year which you might want to consider, such as Eddie Cochran Days, Christmas in the Village, The Haunted Village in October, and the Freeborn County Fair Week at the beginning of August. Several name entertainers appear at the fair and this might be a nice time for an extended visit to Albert Lea and Freeborn County. You can check the Freeborn County Fair site for a list of entertainers for this years fair.
We do have an area where we can arrange for your group to have a catered meal while you are at the Museum. This is usually arranged with a local restaurant or deli. There is a modest cost for the meal.
The Freeborn County Museum has also been host to several Elderhostels which are arranged in conjunction with Riverland Community College. Elderhostels usually are a week in duration and include many events and tours in the Freeborn County area. If you would be interested in such an Elderhostel, you can EMAIL us or call 507-373-8003.

Group Presentations
Group presentations for your group can be arranged by contacting Pat Mulso at the Freeborn County Historical Museum. You can EMAIL her or call 507-373-8003. Mrs. Mulso has given many presentations in the area for service clubs, school classes, etc. She would happy to work out the details of your presentation with you.
