Cisco 678 Setup Instructions


Physical Setup
1. Begin by connecting the Serial/Ethernet cable from the MGNT Ethernet port of the router to the Serial port of the PC.
2. Using Hyper Terminal, Make a new connection using “Connect to Com ___”.
3. Set the:
Bits per sec: 38400
Data Bits: 8
Parity: None
Stop Bits: 1
Flow Control: None

Software Config
Type the words in blue. The response from the router will follow in red.

cbos# enable
password: enter

cbos# set nvram erase
Erasing Running Configuration.
Your must use “write for changes to be permanent.


cbos# write
Warning: traffic may pause while NVRAN is being modified NVRAM written.

cbos# set ppp wan0.0 ipcp 0.0.0.0
PPP wan0-0 IPCP Address set to 0.0.0.0

cbos# set ppp wan0.0 dns 0.0.0.0
PPP wan0-0 DNS Server Address set to 0.0.0.0

cbos# set ppp wan0.0 login username@smigdsl
User name for wan0-0 has been set to username@smigdsl

cbos# set ppp wan0.0 password user’s password
Password for wan0-0 has been set to user’s password

cbos# set dhcp server enable
DHCP Server enabled

cbos# set nat enable
NAT is now enabled You must use “write” then reboot for changes to take effect.

cbos# write
Warning: traffic may pause while NVRAN is being modified NVRAM written.

cbos# set web disabled
WEB is disabled

cbos# set web port 60000
You must use “write” then reboot for changes to take effect.

cbos# write
Warning: traffic may pause while NVRAN is being modified NVRAM written.

cbos# set password exec (Initials of user and smigdsl)
Exec Password Change Successful!

cbos# write

cbos# set password enable(Initials of user and smigdsl)
Password enabled

cbos# set int wan0-0 disable
Wan0-0 is disabled You must use “write” then reboot for changes to take effect.

cbos# write

cbos# set int wan0-0 vpi 0
Change completed.

cbos# set int wan0-0 vci 32
Change completed.

cbos# set int wan0-0 enabled
Wan0-0 is enabled You must use “write” then reboot for changes to take effect.

cbos# write

cbos# reboot
